Wanted to let you in on the progress of the current development. Earlier prioritization still stands, with some additions. Below are the highlights, but more is delivered and on the way.
TL;DR
We are currently building: Collections in app together with Routes and POIs with sync architecture, allowing your entire library to be stored offline on all your devices together with smart sync to handle updates. Also upcoming feature Add POI in app will be possible when offline, and synced when having internet connection.
New addition: Customizable “Curvy” and “Adventure” routing modes.
Features in Plan: Round Trip (App design), Reverse Route, Reporting, and Distance to next POI.
Next Android Update: Includes voice instructions, better offline map downloads, improved Android Auto, and a vastly improved navigation experience.
1. Current Work & Offline Capabilities
- Focus: Building Collections in app together with offline sync for collections, routes and POIs.
- Library: Your full library with collections, routes and POIs will be available in the app and stored on the device for offline use.
- Smart sync: Edits made to routes will automatically update on the device once an internet connection is established.
Potential Additions (Time Permitting):
- Offline Routing: Currently under discussion for prioritization.
- Off-road Instructions: Simple turn-by-turn guidance for routes/part of routes outside the standard road network.
2. Upcoming Features & Route Engine
Additions to Route Modes:
- Curvy Tarmac Mode: Will feature adjustable “curviness” levels.
- Adventure Mode: Will feature the ability to choose which track grades to prioritize (including opt-only UK Byways).
Route and Navigation Features:
- Round Trip: Released on the web; app design is pending.
- Planned: Reverse Route in app, Add POI in app & Reporting, and Distance to next POI.
3. Next Android Update (Currently in Beta-testing, out soon)
Before the features listed above are released, there will be an Android update (currently in open beta for participants) containing the following:
- Navigation: Re-worked foundation for a better user experience.
- Audio: Voice instructions and sound effects added.
- Map Downloads: Improved offline map downloads (More stable, and auto-resume.
- Android Auto: Upgraded with search history sync, “Ride to a route” and further improvements.
- POIs: POI filters included.
- Maps and POIs: Selection of maps is now found in the same place as POI, to let you easily select what map you want to view, and what POIs you want to see in the same view.
- Offline Map Management is still found in Settings.
- Settings: Settings-button is moved to bottom, next to Routes/Start Ride.
